We miss our sweet Ruby more than I can say. It has been a very difficult time for the two of us, but our other dogs and cats are a great comfort. We also took in a foster dog through the Bernese Mountain Dog rescue program. Having the foster dog is a bittersweet reminder of Ruby, but at least Bill and I feel better about helping another dog in a time of distress.
Dr. Forslund, we can not tell you how much we appreciated your accommodations of our last minute notice and your willingness to rearrange your schedule so Ruby could pass away at home peacefully, in the place she lived her entire life, surrounded by those she loved and trusted. You made the worst day of our life more bearable and we found comfort in knowing we were able to give Ruby this final act of love by letting her die at home.
The service was quiet, peaceful and calm. No pressure to hurry, I felt comfortable being as emotional as I needed to be in the moment. Dr. Forslund was very compassionate and the respectful treatment of Ruby’s body afterwards is really appreciated.
Thanks again for your service. It’s not a day I like to remember, but at least I know I made it happen in the best way possible for Ruby.
Best wishes,
Marie DiSante and Bill Thompson
