Photo: Rowdy in My Chair (At least he let me think it was mine!)
Rowdy was already an experienced and mellow guy by the time he joined our family from the animal shelter. We initially just fostered him due to some health issues. But once we were able to clear those up, he became a full fledged member of our family to live out his retirement years. He quickly became quite the homebody. He loved his walks, but only walked towards our home. You had to carry him on the outbound journey, but he couldn't wait to get back home. He enjoyed digging in the yard ("Hey, has anyone seen Rowdy lately? Oh no…”) and enjoyed the occasional howl just to remind us he was always near by. Mostly he just enjoyed being in the room with the family and resting the lazy days away.
We were sorry to see him take a turn for the worse, but with the excellent service provided by Dr. Forslund and company (especially Dr. Meg who came to our home), his final day was as peaceful and stress free as all the good days that came before.
Dr. Meg was very calming and understanding. We told her some stuff about Rowdy’s behavior and she informed us he probably had doggy dementia. Besides the other issues he had, finding out he may have had dementia made us more comfortable with our decision for him. Having Rowdy put to sleep at home was very peaceful for him. Thank you for providing this service.
We will miss him, but will be forever grateful that his final hours were spent peacefully, with our whole family gently wishing him a better life on the other side.
Thanks so much.
