Dear Dr. Forslund,
Not a day goes by that we don’t recall the euthanasia experience provided to our Lucky by you. It truly had a profound effect on our outlook about home pet euthanasia, which we have shared with other pet owners. Your service was so compassion-filled that it is hard to put into words but we will try:
We no longer question our decision to have this done at home, all because of how you handled every aspect of the process. There was no pressure to make this appointment, and we delayed it many times. We were grateful that when we did decide to call and set the date and time, you were able to accommodate us at the time and date requested.
We gave our Lucky a warm bath and he had his favorite foods and ice chips the day of the event. We wanted him to be relaxed and feel good when you arrived.
Lucky is a pit bull and was acquired from the animal shelter at age 6 weeks. At the time we acquired him he had already been neutered. Lucky was our 4th pit bull. He was always hyperactive and had anxiety around other dogs, but he was the most loving and loyal pet and had a huge personality that we enjoyed for 15 years. Our home is truly very empty without him.
We know Lucky felt no anxiety at the arrival of Dr Forslund because of her calm nature. Even my other pit bull was drawn to her and sat close by her side during the process. This is something that our vet could have never have provided—nor did we expect it—and was the main reason we explored other options.
Thank you for notifying our vet of Lucky’s passing. They were kind enough to also send a card expressing their sympathy.
We have had two traumatic experiences at a vet’s office during euthanasia for other pets, from which we have never gotten over. We are sure there must be other pet owners who have had similar experiences. This should be addressed and explored at some point by the pet owners and veterinarian professionals. We did not want this for our Lucky. He deserved the best during his last few moments.
We selected the pre-sedation option for Lucky which was helpful to him and us. Lucky was euthanized is his own surroundings, where he was comfortable and felt secured in his “spot” in the living room wrapped in his favorite blanket, where we were able to kiss and love him. It was the best experience we could have ever asked for and one that we will remember forever.
We highly recommend Home Pet Euthanasia and appreciate all of the follow-up contact from Dr. Forslund and her staff.
Our Lucky was a very special part of our family and taught us how to understand and accept other pets and people who may suffer from anxiety and/or hyperactivity. It was only fitting that he was provided the opportunity to go to sleep in a relaxed, loving, and peaceful environment surrounded by those who loved him the most. Dr Forslund provided all of this and has made a difference in our lives. We are so thankful to have found her.
Sincerely,
Debra Berntsen
