My vet was out of town when it became clear we had to say good-bye to Arthur, our 17 year old kitty who had been suffering from kidney failure for several years. If a stranger was going to do it, I decided I wanted him to go in the comfort of familiar surroundings. I found Annie Forslund online and she was able to come that afternoon. Dr. Forslund was sensitive, sympathetic and understanding. She listened while I told her about Arthur, how he and his sister Ripley came to live with us and what a great kitty he was. She cried with us. She waited patiently for us to say we were ready and we were able to pet him and tell him we love him while he peacefully passed away on our living room sofa.
As much as I miss Arthur it is worth noting that he had a long life filled with love and luxury. He was indeed a lucky cat compared to thousands of healthy dogs and cats that are put to sleep every day in animal shelters. Please spay or neuter your pets, and when you are ready to welcome a new pet into your family, please consider rescuing a dog or cat from a municipal shelter. Thank you.
