Simon

Simon was born in my bedroom closet.  It's where he chose to take his daily catnaps.  When he became ill, he spent increasingly more time there.  One week before his 14th birthday, Dr. Forslund, my roommate and I gathered in the same closet to put him to rest.

I am so glad I allowed Simon to pass away in the place he felt most secure and with the dignity he deserved.  It was also much easier on me to be in my home at such an emotional time rather than at the vet's office or having to drive to and from the vet's while so upset.  I will always be so grateful for the service Dr. Forslund provided to our beloved cat and the compassion, sensitivity and patience that she afforded both Simon and me.  Deciding whether it was the right time to let Simon go was a struggle for me.   Dr. Forslund spent much time helping me sort through my fears so that I would feel secure in my final decision. 

Simon's baby picture is attached.  His modeling career only lasted a few minutes....but he never got tired of hearing how handsome he was.  Matter of fact, Simon would always come running when he heard one of us call "Simon" or exclaim "You're so Handsome!". I think he preferred the latter.

Simon had it all: looks, brains and the love of all who had the privilege of knowing him.  His paw print now hangs on my closet door.  It marks Simon's special place, where he both entered and left this world and signifies the special place he has in my heart.

Thank you, Dr. Forslund, for doing such a difficult and important job in such a loving and nurturing manner.  After our experience with you, we would never consider any other way.   Your wonderful bedside manner enabled us to get through one of life's most difficult experiences.
