We did not euthanize Bogart. He died of natural causes in our house. Todd answered our call late at night with his calm and caring voice. He then came out after midnight, was very empathetic and at the same time knew what to do. Taking care and taking action, he filled out forms, made it easier for us to decide what paw print design and wording to use, and worked with us with great patience. The way he so carefully put our Bogart on a stretcher, tucked him in with its fabric and carried him from our home – well, Todd showed so much respect and compassion while demonstrating his experience and knowledge. It is said that a soul sometimes lingers, aware of those left behind and the body that so served it. Bogart’s family was with him until he took his last breath. Since we believe all life is receptive to love, we can’t help but think that Bogart knew Todd’s love along with ours. With the love he showed Bogart and us, in our fantasy we think of Bogart knowing that all is well, my family is being cared-for, I am free to leave now.
Our vet, Dr. Caroline Goulard, gave us your pamphlet a couple of months before Bogart passed-on. She continually reminded us that we could call you at any time if we thought it was too difficult to pass on his own. We had the time and chose to be with Bogart until the end, but it was reassuring to know that we could have called you at any time and to know whom to call right after he passed away.
