Our story and experience with Dr. Forslund began two weeks ago. We woke up one morning to find our 14 year old golden retriever Beau on his bed, unable to move. His head was cocked all the way to the left and he was very disorientated. He was unable to eat or drink. We thought he had a stroke and worried about his future quality of life at his advanced age. We agonized all day if we should make 'The Decision', but wanted a Doctors opinion before we did.
Beau would snap at us if we tried to move him so we needed a Doctor who would come to our home. After several phone calls, our vet recommended Dr. Forslund.
Shortly after our call, she arrived and was very calming and empathetic about what we were going through. We told her Beau's symptoms. By looking at him, she said it could be a stroke or a brain tumor, but more likely it was Vestibular Syndrome. She prescribed an antihistamine and suggested hand feeding him cooked ground turkey and rice until he got stronger. She told us in a week he should start standing and walking. We were skeptical but optimistic.
Within three days Beau was able to get up on his front legs and scoot around. We kept him in our garage on scraps of indoor/outdoor carpet that we could change out as needed. He was able to eat and drink on his own and got stronger every day.
One week to the day, he stood up and took several steps. Over the next few days, we helped him walk and exercise with the aid of a towel sling under his belly.
Beau is now walking on his own though he sometimes he needs a trail of treats to motivate him. Dr. Annie called to check on Beau's progress. She shows a true devotion to the well being of our 'family members' and to their parents. She was an answer to our prayers and a God sent.
