Ambrose September 13, 2005 - March 19, 2019
Goodbye dear friend, partner and guide. I will always miss you and never forget our years together.
Ambrose was the most incredible guide dog, a large English Lab, referred to as the gentle giant. I received him from Guidedogs for the Blind in San Rafael, California in 2007 while I was studying for my MFA graduate degree. He guided me to my classes and studio. On graduation day at Cal State Fullerton he guided me onto the stage to receive my diploma and the Dean announced his name along with mine. From then he was known as professor Ambrose. As a legally blind photographer Ambrose would guide me to scenic areas which enabled me to take award winning photographs and as a result, I received the 2010 Arts Orange County Outstanding Artist Achievement Award.
Ambrose was more than a guide dog he was a friend and companion not only to me but my partner Terry and our pet beagle sparkles. Ambrose had the most peaceful disposition. Whenever I taught class or did a presentation, he would have a calming effect on the entire auditorium.
Ambrose had to be retired in 2017 after we were hit by a car while walking in Huntington Beach. He was well pampered in his retired years and we allowed him to be very spoiled - he deserved the good life after many years of fine service, love and companionship. I know no other dog will achieve the incredible qualities Ambrose possessed. I miss him terribly.
